Book Recommendation – The History of Organized Crime.

“A word in the right ear can make or murder a man.” Traditional Sicilian saying.

Delve into the seedy underworld of drugs, prostitution, and bootlegging and mass murder in ‘The History of Organized Crime’by David Southwell.

Some of us probably have heard of Al Capone, ‘Lucky’ Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Dutch

Schultz, ‘Bugsy’ Siegel, John Gotti, and the infamous Pablo Escobar, along with El Chapo. Brutal groups like the Triads, Yakuza, Cosa Nostra (The American Mafia), and the infamous Italian Mafia, originally the Sicilian Mafia plagued the world with brutal crimes, while at the same time running a well-oiled organized syndicate.

TV shows, books and movies like Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, Narcos, Peaky Blinders, Scarface, Goodfellas, and probably one of the most well-known and respected gangster movies of all time – The Godfather, loosely bring to life how organized crime works, and the infamous people behind it.

This book unveils the true beginnings and stories of the ones further down the food chain, and the ones that officially began the game of organized crime.

How did they do it? How prolific was police involvement? And how much has Hollywood embellished these stories?

The true history shows the underlying causes of what leads a person to become part of a gang. Starting with the true ‘Godfathers’ of organized crime – the Sicilian Mafia.

Each chapter focuses on the influential cartels, mafia families and mob, along with the key figures and the crimes committed, which slowly infiltrated other countries, and began their own crime families.

From gangs to cartels targeted by the ‘War on Drugs’, may have brought these people to everyone’s attention, yet still fails in combating the spread of drugs and violence.

Chapters focused on the ones that stood against these groups like Elliott Ness, which ‘Untouchables’ is based on. The beginnings and workings of the FBI. The role Robert F Kennedy played in exposing the mob and its ties to the union. Hong Kong’s organized Crime and Triad Bureau, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

And, of course, not to go past the influential people that perhaps enables these crime families to continue. Dictators, CIA agents, political patriarchs, prime ministers, politicians, and even archbishops were not except to the influence of organized crime, and the money it could bring.

So, if you want to learn about the true sordid history of these international crime families, check out this detailed breakdown.
